In my last post I recommended a gardening film: Back to Eden. I also mentioned that I’ve been waiting about three years to have the
opportunity to fully utilize the concept. Just this year I’ve come across
another fantastic, natural way of growing food becoming more food-secure.
Food Forests
Food forests are a blend of permaculture and wild forest (that's my definition). In
other words it resembles a more food-abundant, edible forest. A typical forest
does supply many edibles, but you can create your own forest with your own
choice of food that, once established, produces delicious fresh food on its own every year.
The best videos I’ve seen online so far about permaculture
food forests are at GeoffLawton.com. You can watch the videos for free by
signing up for the newsletter to get instant access (I rarely get emails from them). You will gain an immense amount of knowledge by
these videos. You can also purchase and take a permaculture design course
offered by Geoff. When they are promoting a current course, the videos may be temporarily inaccessible, but keep checking. They are available right now.
I’m so grateful I found this information at this time
because it drastically shifted my plans for the land we are purchasing. We are
now incorporating these ideas into our design. It will take years to get
established (mainly the trees), but there’s no time like the present to begin.
I counted 37 videos and growing. Here's a list of four of them:
